It is rather sarcastic that a lecturer was appointed to teach an unfamiliar topic in such a grand cultural organisation BC ! So, in the main time I appealed to my lecturer : ” Madam, would you please spare me 30 minutes to help you teach this topic in the class ?! ” She said: ” Oh, amazing ! but time is running out. Go ahead for 20 minutes ! Since no 2nd speaker available now. ” Then, I walked up to the platform in an excited mood and raised my voice : ” Romans and countrymen, lend me your ears !…….. ” as if I immersed in the drama of Shakespeare. She shouted : ” No kidding, don`t talk rubbish ! ", It was a delightful moment that I was giving a lecture to my university alumni as well as my oversea lecturer. I started as soon as possible : " There is an English proverb that don`t judge a book by its cover, likewise don`t judge the pronunciation by its spelling ! I give you two examples first: (1) [procedure]: most Asians pronounce as pro-si-dear, but actually there is no d-tone, but j-tone ! The correct pronunciation is pro-si-j ! (2) [schedule]: if [ch] is at or near the center of the word, it should be pronounced as [k],therefore correct pronunciation is [s-k-j], another example is [orchestra]: it should be pronounced as [or-k-s-tra] , .....". At this moment, the whole class discovered that Duncan was standing at the corridor outside the class. So the lecturer was in panic and shouted : " Mr. Wong that is enough, time`s up now ! "
